Born near Kendal, Westmoreland, England, son of Thomas and Jane Farrer. Miller at a large brewery; conversion to Mormonism, and baptism, 1842; emigration from Liverpool in the fall of 1842 with Parley P. Pratt leading the company; work on the Nauvoo Temple; exodus west; arrival in Salt Lake Valley; sealing to his wife in the Endowment House by Brigham Young; settlement in Provo.
